Dr. Kathleen Clark

Doctor of Optometry

Dr. Kathleen Clark graduated with honors from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1977.  In 1979, Dr. Clark co-founded Family Vision Care, a private practice in Charlottesville, Virginia.  Thirty-six years later, her practice affiliated with a corporate entity… soon after Dr. Clark realized her model of caring for patients was better suited for private practice and she has recently retired from the corporate setting.

We are thrilled to announce that in April 2018, Dr. Clark will be joining our team at Vision Tech Optometry Center!  She has long admired our approach of “Modern Eye Care, Old Fashion Caring” and looks forward to continuing to provide general eye exams as well as specialized VES (vision enhancement services) exams in Waynesboro.  Dr. Clark owns and operates Insight Vision Therapy located in Charlottesville where she and all of the doctors at Vision Tech Optometry Center will continue referring patients who may benefit from vision therapy.

Early on in her training, Dr. Clark recognized the positive impact vision therapy made in the lives of her patients.  She earned her certification as a member of The College of Optometrists of Vision Development (COVD).  She offers state-of-the-art services in behavioral and developmental vision care, vision therapy, and neuro-optometric rehabilitation.  Dr. Clark’s training is based on the principle that vision can be developed and changed, and that good vision is developed through a learned process.  Patients who may benefit from vision therapy include children with vision related learning problems, as well as those having a “lazy eye”, closed head injuries, concussion, or stroke.  Athletes who want to improve eye-hand coordination and reaction time may also benefit from vision therapy.  She is an active member of COVD, as well as the Optometric Extension Program and the Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation Association.

When our local Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) housed a vision clinic, Dr. Clark examined patients there from 1992-1996.  Thereafter and currently, WWRC refers patients directly to her.  Dr. Clark has taught courses at The University of Auckland in New Zealand.  She lectures nationally and currently serves as a research consultant and clinical investigator in Phase II of the ICare Study, which is funded through the National Institute of Health.

Dr. Clark is married to Greg Gelburd, DO, a family physician in Charlottesville.  They have five wonderful daughters who love and delight in each other.  Dr. Clark has traveled many times to Haiti and Honduras for medical mission trips.  She enjoys traveling and feels it a true blessing to serve others.  She and her six siblings grew up on Lake Fenton in Michigan.  Always happy around water, Dr. Clark enjoys swimming, stand up paddle board, kayaking and sailing.  Above all, she loves spending time with her grandson, Oscar.
